If you live in the parish, or are on the church's electoral roll, then you can have your wedding at St John's. Also, in almost all cases, we marry people who have been divorced. If you live outside the parish but have a qualifying connection, you may also be able to marry at St John's. If you require further details then please contact the Parish Office.
If you are getting married elsewhere but need your Banns read at St John's, fill in the form below or contact the Parish Office.
At the moment, the law of the land does not allow us to conduct Equal or Same-Sex Marriages in church. However, we will gladly arrange a service of Thanksgiving in church either before or after your civil ceremony. Please contact the Parish Office and we will see what we can do.
We will happily arrange a service to celebrate your wedding anniversary or for the re-affirmation of your wedding vows. This can be simple or grand; in either case it will be a beautiful thing to do. There is usually no fee for a simple ceremony.
During a Christening you or your child will be baptised with water. This formal ceremony marks the start of a journey of faith and is a special day for family and friends. Baptisms usually take place as part of Sunday morning services. When these slots are filled, we will always attempt to make sure that we can find space for you. All are welcome to be baptised.
If you live in our parish you are entitled to have your child baptised at St John’s. If you live outside the parish come and speak to us and we will see what we can arrange. Parents/carers do not need to be baptised. Godparents have to be baptised already and aged 16 or over. Anyone who is not baptised but would like to be involved may take part as a supporter of the candidate. There is no charge for Baptism.
Adults can come for Baptism but this is almost always after a person has been worshipping with St John’s for a period of time. The Bishop encourages all adult Baptism candidates to also be confirmed at the same time or soon after.
No! Dressing up is not a requirement to worship with us at St John's. Some do wear their “Sunday best” but you’re also likely to see someone in casual shirts, or even jeans. We believe the most important part about Sunday morning is showing up, ready to worship God.
St John's is available for funerals. Members of the Ministry Leadership Team are willing to offer pastoral support to any who are dealing with the death of a loved one.
If you would like us to include a person in our daily and Sunday prayers, send their name to us. You don't need to give us any details if you don't want to: just a first name will be enough.
The Hall is available for hire at weekends for private functions, including Christening Receptions, Children’s Parties and Jumble Sales to name a few. Occasionally the hall is available for regular afternoon or evening bookings, availability on request. For all events, full kitchen facilities are available.
